My father-in-law was scheduled for routine test today. Instead, he's been admitted to the hospital with heart problems. He has severe blockages in 2 arteries and is, right at this moment, going a through a procedure to put in 2 "kissing" stents. Besides this, he had a large lymphoma removed from his head last week. It was biopsied, they took a bone marrow sample & did several other tests, and gave him a full body scan. He will get the results of all this on the 30th.

Bless Tad with calm and assurance, his family with strength and peace and comfort, his doctors with wisdom and skill.

My uncle is in surgery to have a brain tumor removed from his left frontal lobe. The doctors are pretty confident it's benign but won't know for sure until the biopsy comes back. His daughter said that his humor is very good. This, I believe, is key to survival and recovery.

Pray for strength and comfort and calm for both Jack and his family. Let their love support each other. May their attitudes remain positive and light and full of humor and joy in life, as this will speed recovery.

update: 11/20/06
The biopsy results show the tumor to be malignant and invasive. He is opting against chemotherapy and radiation. They give him a year to live.

May they be blessed with love and joy of family and strength to say good-bye when the time comes. May they remember that life is eternal and that death is simply a passing from view, and that we are never truly parted from those we love.

Early morning on November 4, this young man - a teenager - was involved in horrible auto accident. He's been in the hospital miles away from home. His family and doctors hope he can go home this week. He suffers from a broken clavicle, fracture pelvis, air around his lung & countless scrapes, cuts & bruises. He will be confined to a wheelchair for quite some time before he'll be able to graduate to a walker.

Bless Jordan and his family with strength and courage. Their love for each other is strong and will see them through this challenging time. May Jordan heal completely - physically, emotionally and spiritually - from this accident, that he may love life even more than he does now.

Bless his family, that they will remember they are not alone. They have the love and support of their extended families as well as many caring friends. Help them to remember that a sense of humour, even in the most challenging of times, can heal even the most frightening pains.

Gordon is the beloved uncle of a friend. He is suffering from kidney failure as a result of diabetes. He needs a kidney transplant and is on the donor list. His family is all being tested for living donors, but no match has been found for him.

May he continue to know the love and support of his family. May he find comfort and strength in them. May he know the kindness of others. May others know the joy of selfless giving. May his doctors find the answers and provide the life-changing gift.

My oldest daughter came to us last night & asked us to pray for her best friend's father. He's had back problems for years, but has now completely lost the use of his legs and is no longer able to work & support his family. This family has no rainy day fund at all. The oldest son is even contemplating dropping out of high school to work full-time in an attempt to support the family (I know ... NOT a good idea).

Pray for them - send out positive thought energies for them - that they may find a way to survive financially, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

For my amazing husband. His love and patience and support are neverending. He is my life, my heart, my love, my soul.

For my oldest daughter. It was she who made me a mother. She is a beauty ... inside and out. Her intelligence and wit awe me daily. I stand inspired by her inner strength and resilience.

For the child I miscarried and the hidden strength I found in leaning on my husband, who experienced this loss as deeply as I.

For my son. So funny and smart as a whip. His sensitive soul knows just when Mommy needs an extra hug ... and he gives it to me unashamedly.

For my youngest, my princess. Her talent knows no end. She is a beautiful, fiery and artistic being with an inspirational zest for all that life has to offer.

For my dogs who love me ... even when I'm not at my best.

For my parents who raised me to be strong and independant and resourceful.

For my sister - my friend and companion growing up.

For my home and the food on my table when so many have none.

For my health and my strength when so many suffer.

For my friends who are always there to remind me that I matter.

For my talents - the ones I've always had, the ones I'm discovering and the ones I've yet to realize.

My 9-year old son came home from school the other day all excited because he finally knows where his friend, Aaron, has been. He's been out of school for about a month and the kids were all getting very worried. The teacher finally announced to the class that Aaron has been in the hospital being treated for cancer. She said that if his white blood cells are "big enough" that he might be able to attend the Halloween party. She also assured the class that his prognosis is good and that he should be back at school in a few months.

My sister called me late last night. Her best friend's father was just diagnosed with cancer. They found it in his liver, but that is not where it originated. They don't know, yet, from where it metastacized. They've given him 6-12 months. She asked that we include him here ... he & his family need prayers and positive thoughts to get through this trying time.

Gumbo Dinner event in Salt Lake/Draper, Utah

The Skaggs Catholic Center (300 East 11800 South) is hosting a fundraising gumbo dinner & community gathering including a children's play area and live entertainment with bands, dancers & lots of fun on Saturday, September 10th from 10am - 5pm. All proceeds from this event will benefit the individuals relocated to Salt Lake because of Hurricane Katrina. Requested donations: $10/person, $30/family. Additional donations will be accepted. Heather is the wife of a favorite director of mine. She is a very young mother. She was rushed to the hospital last night after going into seizures and falling into a coma. Her new baby son was taken 6 weeks early by C-section and she underwent emergency surgery to remove the tumor. Her prognosis is uncertain.

I pray for her comfort and for healing. I pray that her young husband, little daughter and baby son will feel her love and find strength in it. I pray that her new little boy will grow up strong and healthy and know his mother's love.

A dear friend of mine was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer and is currently recovering from surgical removal of the tumor. Right now her prognosis is good.
